How do I get the KoVue app?

How much does the app cost?

The app is available for a free trial during the first 60 days from the time you download the app. After 60 days, you will be charged a one-time $1.99 fee.

How do I sync the Kovue app with my cable/satellite/broadcast provider?

The first time you launch the app, you will be prompted to register. During registration, you will be asked to select your cable provider.

How do I invite friends to join me on the KoVue app?

Once you have logged into the app, you can access the menu bar at the top left and you will see a list of everything you can do in the app.  Select “Invite to KoVue” to invite your friends. You can also invite them to join Kovue through SMS on the my friends tab.  There are several ways to reach and invite your friends.  Check out all the other things you can do on the menu tab, such as add your favorite channels and shows and schedule group viewing.

I don’t have cable. Will KoVue still work for me?

Currently, you can use cable, satellite and broadcast with the KoVue app. If you don’t have any of these, you can still use KoVue to see what your friends are watching and join them in their viewing to communicate with them, even if you’re not watching TV.  Alternatively, you will soon be able to use KoVue with other online services such as Netflix.

Why is the app not showing what I’m currently watching?

Once you open the app, the app will show what you are watching, it may take up to one minute to sync with the app on your smartphone.  If you switch channels on your TV at home while in the app, the channel will sync to your smartphone and takes about 20 seconds.

What types of communication are available in the app?

We provide two ways to communicate in-app.  You can in-app message or talk automatically in the app.  If you want to chat with a friend, hold down the picture of your friend and the app will automatically call them.  If you want to message your friends in app, tap your friends picture once.

How do I see what my friends are watching?

iOS:
To see what your friends are watching, go to “now watching” in the app, at the bottom of the screen.  If your friends are watching something, a picture of the show and description will show up by their name.  You will know when a friend is online when you see a green dot at the bottom right of their picture.  There may be times when a friend may be online, but is not watching anything. If they are not watching anything, a thumbnail and show information will not appear next to their name. If they are online, you can communicate with them at any time.

Android:

Can friends join me in what I’m watching?

Friends cannot join you in what you’re watching in the beta release. You must invite them to watch to setup joint viewing. Friends can message you to request an invite to watch together. Once joint viewing begins, two things will happen.  First, you will be prompted to change your TV channel to what the app tells you.  Your TV will automatically sync to the same spot in the show or movie that your friend is watching.  Second, an automatic voice channel will open up between you and the friends you invited to join what you are watching. This means a voice line is always open between you and your joint viewer/s until you are no longer joined together.  Once you are joined in viewing, you can in-app message individual friends within the group or outside your group.  You cannot message the total group in-app at this time

How do I join a friend in what they are watching?

Message them or voice chat them and ask them to invite you. Once you accept the invite then you are setup in the joint viewing!

Why does the audio not work in the app?

In order for audio to work during group watch sessions, the microphone access must be enabled for the KoVue app.   You can check your setting by going to “settings” on your phone and selecting the Kovue app.

How do I set up a joint viewing party?

iOS:
In the app, go to the menu (top-left of screen) or at the bottom of your app, click on “My Groups”. Once you’re in the “my groups” section of the app, you will be prompted to create a group, or click on the + sign at the top of the screen. Another screen will pop up where you will be able to add a picture, group name, and a description of the group. Once you set up the group, you can than add friends to the group viewing party.  Friends can only be added once they are signed up with the app.
Joint viewing can also be setup by inviting individual friends. On the “now watching” page, under “you’re watching” click invite to add friends or a specific group.
10 minutes before the show, everyone in the group will receive a notification.

Android:

Will I be able to mute friends on a joint view party?

You will be able to mute the entire group when you are joined in a viewing party.  You are not able to mute individual friends. Look for a feature upgrade in later versions.

Does everyone have to be watching the television show or game to talk in the joint viewing party?

No, you might have a friend at an actual event or game and give you play-by-play updates, while the rest of the group is watching the televised version. Anyone you want to include in the audio bridge does need to be invited to the group.

Can you see when other people join my group?

You can see when friends join the group when you are in the “my group” section of the app.

Do I have to enter the show I am watching every time I use the app?

The app automatically recognizes the channel you are watching.  It will show on your KoVue app what you are watching when you are on the “now watching area of the app. At times it may take a few seconds for the app sync to your TV audio.

How do I add my favorite shows or schedule my favorite shows?

At the top right hand of the screen in the app, there is a search feature. Click on the magnifying glass icon and you will be able to search shows, channels, friends or all of them at once.  Once you find your favorite show, you will be prompted to add it to your schedule.  If you search for your favorite channels, you will be prompted to save your favorite channels.  You can also schedule shows from what other friends are watching.

Can my friends use the app if they are overseas?

You can use the app to see what your friends are watching and communicate with them. However, Kovue doesn’t recognize foreign channels/shows right now. Stay tuned for app updates and new releases.
